Afolabi Williams is a project developer, development practitioner, civic diplomat, social entrepreneur, a passionate volunteer with key interests in governance, youth education and development, and an IT expert in software engineering, mobile development and digital branding with an overall estimate of over five years’ experience.
A graduate of Computer Science from Nigeria’s foremost premier institution, University of Ibadan. Beginning his career as a Business Development staff and HR/Admin Support Staff in Skye Bank Plc. for an estimate of three (3) years. He also worked as an IT Support Staff at Brian Systems, Lagos and Getmobile Technologies Lagos, and interned at the ICT department and Safety/Electronics Engineering department of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos, Research Assistant at Springfountain Consulting, Abuja, and Support Staff at African University of Science and Technology, Abuja. He currently consults for Ubongo Learning Tanzania.
He studied Civil Leadership at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Computer Engineering at Ogun State Institute of Technology, National Innovation Diploma at School of Banking Honors Lagos, and possesses different certifications such as Project Management Professional, SAP, and CCNA.
Afolabi is A World At School Global Youth Ambassador, Reach Out Integrated Africa Global Youth Ambassador, President Barack Obama Young African Leaders Initiative Fellow, and Common Purpose UK Alumnus. He is the curator for Skills Beyond School Africa, an initiative focused on helping the underserved, underprivileged and marginalized young individuals in rural communities in providing accessible sustainable educational solutions, with several practical hands-on skills beyond classroom, targeted at the quality of their career decision-making, and helping them build an entrepreneurial model through mentoring in line with the UN SDGs. The initiative was born out of the passion to reduce out-of-school on-the-street kids in rural communities across the country and Africa, and it has impacted over 3000 young individuals across Oyo and Osun state, Southwest Nigeria, and still targets over a hundred thousand youths in Africa.
Having combined his expertise and civil society space, he’s passionate about seeing young people take up responsibilities with little or no input of the government in ensuring a growing economy with little or no deficit in building communities and turning low grade rural areas to a mega urban society, thus, he advocates for youth inclusion in governance and presently serve as the spokesperson for the Not Too Young To Run Movement Oyo State where he has participated on several radio and TV interviews, press conferences and high level discourse on youth and politics, governance, civil society and economic development.
He’s a cofounder and team lead for Changemakers Network, a network of innovators, changemakers, young passionate professionals and civil society activists across Africa targeted to empower, equip, and develop grassroot citizens of Africa through social impact projects, policy making, and community outreaches. It’s a platform that houses several community based organizations, and focuses on thematic areas of education, culture, innovation, entrepreneurship, energy and governance. The team houses persons from Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda, and tentatively plans to extend to other parts of Africa.
He has volunteered for reputable organizations such as African Philanthropy Forum, where he was hosted as a Table Talk Discussant in October 2017, IFED Global Ghana as a committee chairperson for International Youth Diplomacy Conference in June 2017 and President General Assembly for 2018, UN Major Group for Children and Youth W/Africa, Hope Alive Africa based in Kenya, Junior Chamber International Nigeria, Programs Director for Young African Diplomats Network now Youth Aid Hub, African Student For Liberty, All Nigeria United Nations Students and Youth Association, and Steering Committee Co-Chair for YALI Network Face2Face Oyo State.
He serves as Acting State Coordinator for African Youth Union Commission and Country Representative for Peacfulmind Foundation International India, IT Consultant for Cedar Seed Foundation, and IT Manager for African Youth Academy.
A pan-Africanist and a member of African Youth Commission, African Youth Union Commission, Pan African Youth Commission, Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Arts 4 Peace, and Young African Leaders Initiative.
He’s a recipient of the YALI Leadership Award at the Regional Leadership Center Ghana in 2017, 2016 JCIN-UI Most Outstanding Person Award, and other numerous award.
His interests are traveling, research, language, and writing.
